This is a companion to Wavelets. It listens through your microphone and lights up the piano keys it hears — everything runs on your device, no audio leaves the browser.
The notes come from a small neural network (Spotify’s Basic Pitch) running live on your device — the same detector as Wavelets’ Chords view. It hears several notes at once and gets the tricky case right where a note’s fundamental is weak or missing, so a low string still lights the low key rather than its octave. Each key glows teal while its note is sounding (a key you tap to hear lights gray).
All 88 keys (A0–C8) are here; the keyboard shows about two octaves on a phone and more on a wide screen, and scrolls to follow what you play. Turn your phone to landscape for the most room. Auto pan (by the play button) toggles that following; you can also drag the keys to pan by hand, and use the bar to scrub back through the last 30 s.
Tap and hold any key to hear it — a plain reference tone that works even before you press ▶ (no microphone needed). On every key it detects, a small dot and line show intonation: the dot sits on the line when the note is in tune, rides above when sharp and below when flat. It reads the pitch from the neural detector, so treat it as a quick guide rather than a precision tuner.
Notes use Scientific Pitch Notation, where middle C is C4 and A4 = 440 Hz — so a guitar’s low string reads E2 and its high string E4.
